I think it's an antidepressant but it has sedative side effects. I have racing thoughts I don't no if its from the med. I just started using Trazodone after I went and saw my doctor because I haven't been able to sleep well for a long time. I'll give it a little longer. I I was taking it for depression and sleep I think 50mg until I switched to neurotin. The hangover part really suck though. Trazodone is often prescribed for sleep. But that interaction just wouldn't work out for me. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts I'm hoping to get off of it as soon as I can, though! My psych gave me a very small dose of Clonidine. This wasn't much help to me as i'm usually tired as hell anyway, so I made a switch to Remeron. Until.... one day I was anxious and took .5mg of ativan to take the edge off. But the 0.1 mg made me feel floaty all day, so she told me to cut it in half with a pill splitter. Make sure you follow the RULES. I did not know that. as for the groggyness, have a cup of coffee and you're good to go for the most part. I was taking 150 mg a night, and it was not really working well. Lately I've been suffering from bad insomnia and I've been on Ativan, but I want to get off benzos. I tried walking around, jumping Jacks, anything, to wake up. I'd give it more time and maybe see your psychiatrist when you feel you've exhausted this option.I agree with this comment. Both nights, I just ended up tossing and turning for hours.I had to go back to Ativan to finally get to sleep around 1am. Highly recommend. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I was always told the rule of thumb for new medication is 6 weeks for it to kick in and do its job. Last night I took a whole pill before I went to sleep and I fell asleep reading. I can't recommend it enough if you are having sleep problems. Your dose must be too low. I think it's an antidepressant but it has sedative side effects. Any drug that has the potential for dependency/addiction makes me really nervous, since I have a history of addiction in my family. Even alternating them with Ativan for a few weeks will prevent dependence. Once I fall asleep i'm usually in the clear for a good 4 hours before I start to toss and turn. I do wake up around 4am and have to take a second trazodone. Trazodone didn't help me fall asleep it just made me really drowsy. I also found that it worked better if I took it with food, that was actually recommended by my doctor. Thanks for sharing your experience. Thanks for the links. I'd give it more time and maybe see your psychiatrist when you feel you've exhausted this option. This is a risk reduction resource. FOR SLEEP i am on 400mg of trazodone every night at bedtime. 50-100mg of Trazodone at night does me wonders, no more insomnia. I don't know if I will grow to tolerate it or not but right now it makes me sleep so fantastic.Thank you! That's amazing! I was getting around 3-4 hours a night and couldn't fall asleep without the tv on so I didn't feel so alone.I started taking trazodone about 3 weeks ago. I see that it also treats hypertension...my blood pressure is borderline and my heart rate tends to be high, so maybe this would help that too!I use Trazadone regularly. It still put me to sleep the same way but no more floaty! Took 200mg one time when I was dope sick and felt like death. Apparently your liver metabolizes it into Some people aren't very sensitive to stimulants or end up falling asleep before the first past metabolism of the trazadone, so it might work regardless. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to give the Trazodone a few more days and see if it eventually puts me to sleep, or if I should just give up and call my doctor tomorrow to ask for something else.
